Thames gateway 3 Wilburn Wanderers 1

A tough test for our boys on Sunday, our old friends Thames Gateway. Tony had most of the squad to choose from to make things difficult for him, so he opted to leave Charlie, Chris and Liam on the bench first half.

The team as a rule played well, early first half pressure resulted in an very unlucky own goal. Early passing of the ball was up to our usual high standard, giving Thames no time to relax in mid-field. Tommy and Michael linked up well,Michael going through a couple of times, but the oppositions defence were always there at the right time.

As always our defence played excellent, mopping up most attacks with ease. Against the run of play Thames scored from the wing.2-0 Thames.

Jimmie had another of his trade mark long distance shots just skim the cross bar, which was unlucky and had the keeper totally stranded. We need more of these shots from outside the box.

Second half see A few subs made, Chris S was played through 1 on 1 with the keeper and guess what happened next.

The score 2-1 to Thames, a score which didn't tell the whole story.Wilburn were more than comfortable with the opposition, perhaps with a league ref the result would of been more equal.

Late in the second half ,Thames had a throw on. Liam (Centre half) Kneeled down to do his boot lace on the left wing , looked up and the ref allowed play to continue.3-1 was the result.

Having said that ,there were a couple decisions that went our way ,which balanced the books a little.

All in all a good spirited friendly match, our thanks goes to Thames Gateway for arranging this friendly.

In terms of performances,Wilburn were running at 60% of what they are capable of. We look forward to playing Thames Gateway this season.
